Why Healthy Self Esteem Can Bring Success in Your Work

HELPING YOU BE MORE PRODUCTIVE AND MANAGE YOUR TIME BETTER

People don’t realize just how important healthy self esteem is in the workplace. The whole work environment and tone of the work place begins at the top. Places of business are our second families. The way in which our co-workers and superiors relate to us is directly related to how we interact with them. As in a healthy family, a healthy workplace encompasses constant adjustments and compromise to arrive at the best solution to a problem. The bottom line for business is to build a profitable business. The easiest way to accomplish this is through repeated positive actions.

If a superior or supervisor asks for what they need in a non threatening way, they are much more likely to get cooperation than if they demand what they want. Telling someone or asking for something specific can be done with class and respect, or, it can be done in a negative way, which saps employees energy and motivation. A superior or co-worker with low self-esteem will approach their underlings with a request in a gruff manner. This approach is a direct result of poor self esteem. It may seem as if the boss is in charge, but in reality the opposite is true. They are bracing for an argument from the people underneath them. Therefore, they will have an underlying level of resentment that at first may not be apparent. This attitude of resentment spills over in the workplace. Employees eventually sense this resentment and if vulnerable to it, will pass the mood onto co-workers. Pretty soon the whole workplace is infected with this negative atmosphere. Have you ever walked into a place of business and turned around and walked right out? You probably walked out because you weren’t treated with respect. Happiness and unpleasantness are moods that can become contagious in any work environment very quickly.

The importance of self esteem in the workplace, whether you are self-employed or not cannot be underestimated. Dollars and cents grow or decline with the atmosphere of a business. People with a healthy self regard for themselves are for the most part very happy and productive. Happy people have more energy and bring genuine excitement to a project. When more energy and enthusiasm are applied to the task at hand, a better, more intelligent result follows.

It is a known fact that your brain works more efficiently in proportion to how happy you are. If your energy level is up, fresh and sometimes unprecedented ideas emerge. Innovative ideas can revolutionize a business. Case in point, the internet has forever changed the way we work, educate ourselves and communicate. Who could’ve predicted how thoroughly the world wide web would change our lives? This was not accomplished by somebody with low self esteem. In fact, their self esteem was most likely very high because I am sure their ideas were initially scoffed at.

Great self esteem is built one step at a time. Success builds on prior successes. Creating self esteem may seem like an ambiguous goal, but it really is within your reach. Here is the key; it doesn’t get accomplished all at once, and it doesn’t need to be. Growing self esteem is exactly like growing a plant; giving the right ingredients on a regular basis will guarantee a healthy plant. Healthy self esteem works the same way. Each new day is another gift and another chance to put your ideas into action. With each goal that is completed, and every milestone reached, your self esteem gets a little bit stronger. Finishing what you started paves the way for success. You are building layers of resiliency through solid accomplishments.
